If you spend more than a few days vacationing in Phuket, as you should, you will no doubt come across a Thai market. Typiclly, each major town in Phuket holds a market once or twice a week on a particular day. Since I am a resident of Kamala, I know that the market occurs every Tuesday and Saturday 4 pm - 8 pm without fail.
Most Thais do a majority of their food shopping at these times. These open-air markets are to Thai people what grocery stores the grocery store is to Americans. The only difference with the market is that the that you are about to buy was most likely caught by the very same person
If you’ve seen one aquarium, you’ve seen them all. And the Phuket Aquarium is no different. However, if you have come to Phuket with children, then I strongly recommend coming to check it out. The first and only time I went to the Phuket Aquarium, it was with the Patong Kindergarten class I was teaching at the time. Although I found it a bit small for my liking, the 4 year olds I was with LOVED it, so I thought it worth mentioning on www.peteinphuket.com.
If being sealed inside a giant hamster ball filled with a couple feet of water is your thing, only to be pushed down a steep embankment, then Zorbing is for you. Located on the border of where Patong and Kalim meet, the Zorbs are about a 5 minute taxi ride from Bangla Road. Although the road leading up the hill is somewhat tricky to find at first, keep your eyes peeled for the semi-inflated Zorb ball on the side of the road- that landmark will tell you that you're close. Good luck trying to tell a tuk-tuk driver to take you "zorbing!" You may get some interesting stares along with the inevitable exorbitant taxi fare for the 5 minute ride.
Once you get atop of the hill, there is plenty of room for parking if you so happen to take your own transportation there. ON the left you'll find a decently stocked bar in case you need some liquid courage before entering the zorb.
