"I am actually due to be in the region next month (Vietnam specifically) for work, but have some free time and really want to visit Phuket. Do I need to get a visa ahead of time?"

Thanks for visiting.  If you are planning on visiting Thailand (and Phuket specifically) you don't nee dto file any paperwork in advance.  Upon landing in Thailand, you are issued a free 30 day tourist visa, so you are all set when you have time off from your job in Vietnam. Enjoy!

"What type of Visa do I need to visit Thailand?" -- Matt G., USA

This is a great question, one that we receive quite a bit here at www.peteinphuket.com.  The easiest way to answer this is, well,  that it depends. Thailand issues numerous types of visas, so sometimes it may cause confusion as to what type you must get.

Visa Upon Arrival: If you are simply heading to Thailand for a vacation and don't plan staying longer than 30 days, then a simple 30 day tourist visa is sufficient.  If your passport is from one of these accepted countries, you can simply be issued a visa upon your arrival into Thailand.
